Abstract
Meningomyelocele, the most common type of spina bifida, can be prenatally diagnosed with the combine use of maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein (MSAFP) and fetal ultrasonography. In most cases, meningomyelocele is associated with elevated MSAFP level and typical cranial anomalies caused by Chiari II malformation. The prognosis of a fetus with meningomyelocele is closely associated with the level of spinal lesion and the degree of brain anomaly. The cases without Chiari II malformation are rare and have good prognosis. We have experienced a case of fetal meningomyelocele which showed normal level of MSAFP and no associated Chiari II malformation. We present this case with brief review of literatures.
